My Bedroom Redo
The first room of the house I wanted to share is my bedroom. This room was a tough one! I knew the first time I walked through this house that the beauty was there. Growing up with my mom walking through some really gross, interesting, cluttered, and like my room it was very “personalized.” We couldn’t afford this house but the previous homeowners had personalized this house past most peoples imaginations. We were not looking for a new home when my mom listed this one. At her urging I decided to look at it because she was sure it had so much potential. We came and we looked, and really the outside of the home had so much charm and it was the idyllic yellow home with a covered front porch I had always dreamed of. Our previous home in Chugiak was lovely, but the home had no face, if you know what I mean. It was plain and boxy and and not much could be done to change it with the vinyl siding and windows that were moved to accommodate the remodel they did. All that to say, while lovely inside it was never beautiful like this home has become. Here is the after:
So I have to talk about the before a little. Purple jam and mint chip colored walls and ceilings adorned this beautiful space. A large purple drapery panel situation on a pulley system much like a movie theater covered this stunning bay window with hundreds of pounds of curtains that matched, you guessed it…the walls and comforter that was left behind for me. This room took a few years to get done. The purple ceiling stripe was the first thing to go. This room redo was inspired by a blog that I love A Thoughtful Place her bedroom redo in her California home. Of course I could not afford one thing that she used in that room so I did my best. The rug is a 10 x 15 rug that I got off of Facebook Marketplace for $100. The chandelier was also from marketplace for $40 and then made gold with Rub N Buff from Michaels. The dresser was an yellow oak colored dresser that was similar to our antique bedrooms set but did not match. We got it from craigslist for $150 and two years after purchasing painted it with Benjamin Moore Hale Navy as inspired by my favorite blogger Lauren Shaver of Blesser House. The Sherwin Williams paint for this was $50 but worth it and only took half a quart of paint. Curtains are from Ikea called the Vivan and they are 95″ long I got six panels of these off marketplace for $120 from a nice lady here in Wasilla. The fake fiddle leaf fig is from QVC and was only $45!! The ladder I bought when we moved to this house in 2016 from Magnolia and was in the basement for many years. Wall paint is Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. It has a yellow-is tint in this room because we have not tackled repainting the ceilings in this room, because well its a lot of work and it doesn’t need to be done yet, Ha! Our flooring is Ashcombe Oak from Home Deorators collection at Home Depot which we were able to score for $1 a square foot. We did the room in two different phases and used the laminate in the bathroom too cause it was cheap. Its one of my most favorite spaces in the house. The bay window and double sided fireplace are the highlights for me. Let me know your thoughts!
