Backyard-European Gravio Transformation

This summer we embarked on a project 5 years in the making. Turned out to be one of the most loved projects we have ever done on our home, which came as a surprise. We have a daylight basement with a hill on each side of the walk out. The grass has never grown well here and has always looked unhealthy and dead. Our plan was to remove the grass in a large semi-circle and replace with gravel which would in turn give us a clean slate to add patio table and fire pit area where I could no longer light the dead grass on fire.

We first removed the grass and discovered that grass see was obviously laid on top of rocks with no soil or prep which is why it didn’t grow well and was never going to grow well. Lots of labor and Kyle removed all the sod himself in a couple of days. Once that first patch came out it was game on and we would have to finish. I drew a sketch of what I wanted it to look like on scratch paper about 5 years ago and we largely stuck to the drawing…good ideas stand the test of time. Turns out I didn’t really get a final picture when I updated chairs and pillows but there’s always next summer. Ha!
